Meet Your Doula

My name is Kara, and I have been happily married to my husband, Eddie, for 15 years. Together, we are blessed with seven beautiful children who have shaped so much of who I am today.

Our family has called several places home, including central West Virginia, Pennsylvania, where I was born, and Jonesboro, Arkansas, where we spent a year building our lives and where I first began my doula business. During our time in Arkansas, I had the privilege of supporting several families through their birth journeys. Now, my family and I have returned to Pennsylvania, and I am excited to continue serving families in Altoona, Blair County, and the surrounding Central Pennsylvania communities.

My passion for motherhood began when I was just 11 years old, I started babysitting as soon as I could and always found joy in caring for little ones.  After welcoming my first three children in a hospital setting, each with a very different birth experience, I found myself eager to learn more about pregnancy, birth, and the care women receive throughout this transformative time. That curiosity grew even stronger when I began preparing for my first home birth.

My home birth became the most beautiful and rewarding birth experience of my life! Looking back, I believe so much of that experience was shaped by the knowledgeable, compassionate women surrounding me. They cared deeply about both me and my baby, supported my choices, and helped create an environment where I felt safe, respected, and empowered. That experience changed me. I knew I wanted to be one of those women for someone else. I wanted to walk alongside mothers during one of the most vulnerable and beautiful seasons of their lives, offering the encouragement, education, and support they deserve.

That calling led me to pursue doula training, and I became a certified birth and postpartum doula through the Madriella Doula Network. Since then, supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period has been an incredibly rewarding journey. I have loved serving families in northeast Arkansas, and I am thrilled to continue this work here in Central Pennsylvania.

I have also recently begun working with other doulas in the area that are apart of the DOCP, where I have had the pleasure of connecting with and learning alongside some truly wonderful women who share my passion for supporting families.

My heart is in helping women feel informed, supported, and confident as they welcome their little ones into the world. Every birth story is unique, and I would be honored to be a part of yours.
